Our History
Overview

Irongate Group has its origins as the Investec Group’s Australian and New Zealand property investment and asset management business. Having invested in and managed over A$5bn of assets for the Investec Group, the long-standing management team evolved to become the Irongate Group to continue its growth trajectory. Having built and exited one of Australia’s leading publicly listed real estate investment trusts (REIT), the management team, with the support of Burstone Group, continues to manage capital and assets on behalf of some of the world’s leading investors.

2006
  • Graeme Katz (Chief Executive Officer, Irongate Group) establishes the Australian property business for the Investec Group
  • The Investec Group launches the Toga Accommodation Fund - an unlisted fund invested in hotels and serviced apartments in Australia and Europe, with in excess of A$320mn assets under management
2007

The Investec Group launches the Investec Property Opportunity Fund No.1 - an unlisted fund focusing on opportunistic multi-sector property investments, with in excess of A$800mn assets under management

2010
  • Investec Group launches the Investec Property Opportunity Fund No. 2 - an unlisted fund focusing on opportunistic multi-sector property investments, with in excess of A$260mn assets under management 

  • The Investec Group completes the acquisition of a A$200mn non-performing property loan portfolio, the first trade of its kind post the Global Financial Crisis 

2013

Investec Australia Property Fund lists on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange 

2018

Investec Australia Property Fund reaches A$1bn in assets 

2019

Investec Australia Property Fund lists on the Australian Securities Exchange 

2020

Investec Australia Property Fund internalises management and becomes the Irongate Group, with the aim of growing its property portfolio and expanding its third-party funds management platform 

2022

Irongate sells listed REIT to Charter Hall providing ASX investors with third-best return amongst all peers since listing and JSE investors with the leading return amongst peers, also since listing.

2023

With the support of Burstone Group (formally Investec Property Fund), Irongate management complete an MBO of the platform to continue the business that commenced in 2006.
